Captains BIO

greg.jpgCaptain Greg Doherty is a USCG licensed captain who has a passion for all things fishing. Growing up in MI fishing for bass since the age of 7, Greg moved to FL and took up saltwater angling. Naturally with his kinship for bass fishing, he acquired a love of snook fishing, particularly conquering the challenge of targeting them with top water lures. He says “there is nothing that will get your blood pumping more in the sport of fishing, then watching a 20 lb snook push “A-Wake” in the shape of a V behind your top water lure, and then hearing the “Drag” start screaming as the fish makes that distinct snook pop when it inhales the lure and bolts for the nearest cover”. Hence the birth of “A-Wake N’ Drag”. Capt Greg has also become well known as one of the best redfish guides in the Tampa Bay area, often putting schools of hundreds of giant fish in front of the boat for his clients to wrestle with all day!

Prior to providing fun and enjoyment in the form of fishing on the waters of the Tampa Bay area, Greg graduated from Michigan State University with a finance major, and worked in corporate america for 11 years selling enterprise level technology solutions. He learned a lot, met plenty of great people, but always had a burning desire to “Captain his own ship”. After gaining the courage to make his passion a living, Capt. Greg left his stable corporate job, got his captains license, bought a boat, and the rest they say is…history!

Greg is married to his beautiful wife, Azucena DeLaRosa-Doherty, who is an accomplished Interior Designer, who owns her own boutique firm in downtown St Petersburg where they make their home. When he is not on the water, his second home, Capt. Greg enjoys spending time with his wife and young son Cruz, traveling, friends, good food, the arts, and a variety of sports. One of which is distance running as he has run 15 marathons, and 1 ultra marathon at a distance of 50 miles…yes at one time!

Capt. Greg would like you to “step into his office”…the best view on earth! He looks forward to meeting you for a safe, fun, fish filled day on the water.
